| Abstract | Previous researchers have examined the role of careless responding on factor analytic results with simulated data, although investigations with actual data were rare and incomplete. The present study uses real data to examine how careless responding may affect the factor structure of a construct. Our results showed that a two-factor structure of a construct was more apparent among careless respondents than among careful respondents. Based on our results, we recommend researchers to use a dedicated measure to identify and exclude careless respondents before their data analysis. |
