AbstractTo tackle the difficulties arisen from the need for manufacturing system to reason about the space and geometry of design modules, an approach that blends artificial intelligence techniques with computational geometry algorithms is proposed. To support this claim, two recently developed systems are discussed. One automatically recognizes a set of machinable features from a design model; the other generates high-level setup and fixture plans for the part. The proposed system can handle design module with complex intersection of primitives.
