One Day is a monograph containing some 200 pages of the solo exhibition City . Scenery. The cities refer to Macau and Hong Kong, and the sceneries are some features within. The two cities are vibrant and are full of colours. They are filled with sights: the East and the West, the cultures old and new, big and small, so on and so forth. In the past two years, due to the pandemic, the two cities have encountered certain anxieties like anywhere in the world. Ordinary people live as usual. Yet there appears lot of changes. I wandered through the cities picking up scenes, my favourite ones and those moved me — I took pictures with my mobile phone, then did the drawings with pencils on recycled wood, old frames and canvases. To borrow the words of the French philosopher Michel Foucault: “… ethnology… forms an undoubted and inexhaustible treasure-hoard of experiences and concepts”. In other words, things around the cities are all cultural relics. They might be old and faded, yet they carry diverse cultural connotations. The cultural relics suggest meanings because there are people. Such bonding of people and artefacts provides a field of connection of different experiences and relationships.
