| Abstract | Through setting up the artwork (as) in a room, I demonstrated my drawing manifestations concerning some gender stereotyped Chinese characters and nushu, the women’s script created by and shared among women in a small region in China. Appropriating drawing, a sidelined practice in the Western Art and nushu writing, an inventive approach to the legitimate language, my performative practice in A room displays my work in various featured spots, making dialogues with the space and suggesting possible transpositions of boundary. A mode of creative practice, this writing is interwoven with various theorists’ and practitioners’ discourses and practices concerning woman in a room; whilst a room is an orientation, it as well acts as a strategy. |
