Abstract | The portfolio assessment has been successfully used to assess music education majors’ learning progress and teaching competency internationally in the past decade. The purpose of this study aims to assess the undergraduate seniors’ keyboard competency through the use of portfolio assessment in an undergraduate education program of the University in Macau. One of the goals for doing this study is to help the seniors understand their or their peers’ keyboard progress in the Group Piano Class and to become competent music teachers through developing and using portfolios. The use of portfolio assessment does not only give participants a fair and clear assessment in music learning, but the portfolio assessment also provides both the participants and the instructor with efficient music approaches and confidences on music learning. Participants are able to comprehend the different aspects of piano performing and accompanying. The relevant studies should be encouraged by all level music teachers. |
