SSP was the first dynamic geometry software package designed by Chinese scholars for the teaching and learning of mathematics. Twenty-six schools were involved in an experimental project that began in 2003, entitled the Application of Z+Z Intelligent Education Platforms to the National Mathematics Education Reform. The package was released in 2004, and since then an increasing number of teachers have adopted it as a teaching tool and many students have benefitted from its use as a learning tool. In 2007, we also introduced a related course entitled “Dynamic Geometry” for pre-service teachers in normal universities in China. In this paper, we provide an overview of the design, characteristics, and practical applications of SSP in schools and in teacher education.
