Abstract | This paper starts by providing a PISA’s official definition of resilient students so as to allow researchers to identify and examinee the characteristics of these students in Macao in the PISA 2009 Reading Literacy Study. Demographic, home and schooling characteristics examined in the present study include: gender of student, grade level of study, grade repetition at primary and secondary level, immigration status, family structure, number of children in family, and type of school attended. To capitalize on process variables conceptualized and measured in PISA 2009, such as provision of home reading resources, classroom climate, reading habits, and use of reading strategies, breakdown of student’s resilience in reading literacy on these scale constructs are also examined. Implications of the findings are the discussed. |
