Abstract | Objective: To explore the effects of physical therapy in preventing postoperative symptom setback after ozone ablation for lumbar herniation. Methods: Eighty patients with lumbar disk herniation confirmed by CT or MRI were randomly divided into observation group (OG, n=40) and control group (CG, n=40), and patients of both groups underwent CT guided ozone ablation. The patients in OG received physical therapy (ultrashort wave and semiconductor laser therapy) 3 days after ozone ablation. In CG, the patients only received lying in bed without physical therapy. Clinical outcome was assessed at 1-month point after treatment by applying the modified Macnab method. Results: The excellent, good and poor clinical efficacy was 87.50% (35/ 40), 12.50% (5/40) and 0% (0/40) in OG and 75.00% (30/40), 20.00% (8/40) and 5.00% (2/40) in CG at 1-month point after treatment, respectively. The incidence rate of setback was 2.50% (1/40) in OG and 12.50% (5/40) in CG (P<0.01). Conclusion: Physical therapy can increase the clinical efficacy and decrease the symptom setback after the ozone ablation for lumbar herniation. |
