Abstract | The days of the concept of “development assistance” in the glossary of global law and policymaking may finally be numbered. An important step in this regard was taken by the World Bank’s announcement abolishing the terminological separation of the world into so-called “developed” and “developing countries” in the 2016 edition of the World Development Indicators. This change in language may directly or indirectly be attributed to the emergence of the BRICS countries as a “cooperation and dialogue forum”. Considering the philosophical and practical underpinnings of non-binary modes of thinking, this article takes this opportunity to show why and how the BRICS can make a difference in the debate about the establishment of a more equitable global legal order in the future. |
