Abstract | In this paper, a real-time gesture recognition approach is proposed for smart energy saving home. In order to control electric appliances and save more energy in a smart home, a video camera based gesture recognition algorithm was proposed to detect the movement and behavior of the inhabitants. The context-aware algorithm will analysis and understand the detected movement and gesture to let the service management algorithm to control which electric appliance to which level if there is. Experimental results show that our proposed real-time gesture recognition is efficient and robust, and is quite useful for smart home with about 20% energy saved for some cases.
