Objective: To study the basic characteristics and problems of basic service in the community pharmacies in New York of USA, Macao and Zhuhai of China. Methods: Thirty pharmacists and seventy pharmacy consumers in New York, Macao and Zhuhai were investigated with semi-structured questionnaire. Results: The basic service by community pharmacies in Macao and Zhuhai were still in the initial stage, and differences were quite obvious, when comparisons were made between domestic and foreign basic services. Conclusion: The community pharmacies in Macao and Zhuhai could draw experience of the basic service from community pharmacies in New York through development of diversification, improvement of pharmacist professional knowledge and increase in drug stock.
