Aim: To develop a method for analysis of saponins from panax notoginseng using pressurized solvent extraction coupled with high performance thin layer chromatography. Method: pressurized solvent extraction and HPTLC system equipped with applicator, auto-development, densitometer were used. The detection wavelength was 534nm(reference wavelength:700nm). Result: The standard curves of ginsenosides Rb1,Rd,Rg1 and notoginsenoside R1 showed good linearity in the range of 0.402 - 2.010 μg( r = 0.9995),0.154 - 1.275 μg( r = 0.9965),0.198 - 1.980 μg( r = 0.9998) and 0.156 - 1.400 μg( r = 0.9978) respectively. The recoveries were between 95.3% and 99.3%. Conclusion: The developed method could be used to determine the content of saponins in panax notoginseng.
