Abstract

This study has looked into the tensile and the corrosion behavior of the AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel subjected to annealing temperature between 600 and 900 °C for up to 7 days. Discussion of results centers on using AISI 316 as concrete reinforcing bars. At a given temperature within this range, the tensile behavior is almost unaffected for annealing up to 7 days. However, there is a drastic change in fractography with annealing temperature. There is no relationship between the degree of sensitization and anodic polarization parameters. No relationship exists between annealing temperature and anodic polarization parameters, too. In comparison with ordinary carbon steel, the presence of Ca(OH)is much more beneficial to the pitting resistance of AISI 316.
