Abstract | In this paper, a new hybrid power quality conditioner (HPQC) is proposed for power quality compensation and power supply. Conventionally, the unified power quality conditioners (UPQCs) have been commonly used for both voltage and current-related power quality (PQ) compensations. With the renewable energy embedded, the UPQCs can operate in islanding mode. However, the UPQCs suffer high dc-link voltage, which drives up the system cost and loss. To reduce the dc-link voltage, the modified UPQC has been proposed for power quality compensation and active power injection. However, the modified UPQC cannot operate in islanding mode at utility failure. Therefore, a new HPQC topology is proposed which can operate during utility failure with islanding mode. In this paper, a circuit configuration of the proposed HPQC topology is given firstly. Then, the basic control idea of HPQC is provided. Finally, to provide the validation of proposed HPQC, the PSCAD simulation studies are provided for HPQC in comparisons with UPQC and modified UPQC. |
