Abstract

The installed capacity of offshore wind farms (OWFs) has experienced explosive growth in recent years. In addition to OWF integration, the admission of offshore wind power may also require onshore network expansion. Unlike previous separated researches, this paper proposes a joint planning method for the OWF integration and onshore network expansion. Typical scenarios are generated by K-means clustering method to consider the variations of wind farm outputs and the load demands. The constraints on cable capacity and nodal voltage magnitude raised by the shunt charging of the submarine cables are considered by a linearized AC power flow model. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed joint planning method reduces the total cost of network investment and wind curtailment, compared with the separated planning approach.
