Abstract | The factors that may lead to Macao Government translators' acceptance of Computer Aided Translation (CAT) systems is studied in this research. Macao, known as the Eastern Las Vegas, has become a special executive region after returning to China from Portugal in 1999. Since then, translation has been implicit to the administrative procedures of the Macao Government due to the two-formal-languages (Chinese and Portuguese) policy. Based on the successes of technological translation solutions utilized by other multilingual regions (EU and HK), CAT systems should be introduced in the Governance of Macao to guarantee the effectiveness of translation. By analyzing the Macao Government translators' acceptance and perception of CAT systems, Macao Government translators’ efficiency and quality can be improved. As a result, the laws and the related documents could be translated into more precise and unambiguous documents, contributing to the stability of the local laws, saving administrative costs for the whole society and promoting the development of the local economy. |
