Mathematical Simulation of AAO-MBR Process For Nutrients Removal from Municipal Wastewater

Abstract

This study investigated the Biowin-based mathematic model for anoxic/anaerobic/aerobic-MBR process in a pilot scale wastewater treatment. Calibration of the AAO-MBR model was firstly implemented, and four parameters were adjusted such as yield coefficient for heterotrophic biomass(YH ), maximum specific growth rate of substrate for OHO(μmax ), decay rate constants for heterotrophic biomass(bH ) and for AOB(baerob,A ) for a better fitting between the experimental data and the model outputs. The simulating concentration of COD, NH4+-N, TN, NO2- -N and NO3- -N were 22.2 mg·L -1 , 1.63 mg·L -1 , 27.53 mg·L -1 , 23.25 mg·L -1 and 0.05 mg·L -1 , respectively. The deviation of simulating and measuring concentration of COD, NH4+-N, TN, NO2- -N and NO3- -N were 7%, 11%, 3% , 6% and 3%, respectively. The simulation performance of AAO-MBR model was found to fit the experimental data well.
