Abstract

This paper conducts a case study to demonstrate that the success of EMPs corresponds to their basic functions. Through selected cases (Knowledgestorm.com, Dell.com, Taobao.com, Alibaba.com, Wire-and-cable.cn, E2open.com, Bolero.net, Tradecard.com, Ariba.com), this paper shows that the proposed basic function set will be able to increase, if not guaranteed, the success of future EMPs. The main contribution of this paper is that it has verified that there exists a basic function set of electronic marketplace such that the subset of the basic function set can be utilized to customize any particular type of electronic marketplace.
