Abstract

This paper presents a study on the soil nail pullout resistance based on results from a series of laboratory soil nail pullout tests. The pullout tests were carried out on a completely decomposed granite (CDG) soil in a nearly saturated condition under a combination ofdifferent overburden stresses and grouting pressures. The pullout tests simulate the real construction process of a soil nail, includingestablishment of initial soil stresses in a soil slope, drilling a hole with stress release, grouting, and soil nail pullout when the slope slides. The study shows that both overburden stress and grouting pressure have influences on soil nail pullout resistance, and their influences areinteractive. The soil nail pullout resistance is hardly or slightly dependent on the overburden stress when the grouting pressure is low, butincreases with the overburden stress when the grouting pressure is higher
