AbstractCoarsening rates of nanoscale coherent γ' precipitates in several alloys in the Ni-Al-Si system at 600°C have been measured using transmission electron microscopy and image analysis. It was observed that the coarsening of these spherical precipitates can be adequately described by the LSW theory. The effects of compositions of the precipitate and the matrix along with that of the interdiffusion coefficients on the coarsening rates were quantified using current theories of coarsening in multi-component systems. Comparison of calculations with experimental results reveals anomalous coarsening rates of the nanoscale precipitates.
