Abstract | A hierarchical system to classify bird eyes suffering from refractive error is developed in order to investigate eye shape in normal and astigmatic eyeballs. The eyes are first segmented in order to obtain its outer boundary. Thirteen features based on geometry are extracted from the 71 segmented images and used for classification. The system achieves an accuracy of 97.334% when classifying three types: normal, myopia and hyperopia. When classification is based on each feature, the left and right curvature halves of the eye demonstrate the most discriminative power. |
