Abstract

In this paper, a novel wideband filtering directive dipole antenna with pattern reconfigurability was proposed. Based on the mixed couplings between the parasitic dipole element with the main radiating dipole, good filtering response together with directive radiating performance are achieved simultaneously. With the utilization of four PIN Diodes integrated into the two parasitic dipole elements, the switchable bi-directive radiating performance can be easily achieved by controlling the ON/OFF operating states of the PINs. Based on this design methodology, a prototype of a pattern-reconfigurable wideband filtering dipole antenna was proposed. It is demonstrated that the antenna exhibits ~30% wide operational bandwidth and 3.4 dBi realized gain values at both states. The antenna can be applied in vehicle-to-vehicle scenarios and indoor wireless network systems.
