Abstract

This paper, for the first time, reports a blue-sideband excitation (BSE) scheme that can boost the functionality of the mode localization phenomena, enabling enhanced performance and simultaneous multiple modes readout. As a proof-of-concept, a resonant double-ended tuning fork (DETF) magnetometer is employed. Such a technique can simultaneously drive multiple vibration modes, thus allowing the readout of both the inter-modal amplitude ratio (IM-AR) and the inter-resonator amplitude ratio (IRAR), in a single operation. Experiments regarding different readout metrics with respect to BSE and conventional drive scheme were carried out, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed method. As a result, one to two orders of magnitude of sensitivity improvement in terms of amplitude ratio (AR) was attained, and one order of magnitude improvement in equivalent input-referred noise (EIRN) was also achieved. This work has considerable potential for practical applications such as mode-localized coupled resonator sensors and multiple-parameter monitoring.
