Abstract | The paper suggests that global philosophy can be seen as a form of collaborative philosophical practice in which philosophers will bring their varied ranges of expertise and competence to a global philosophical project, thereby contributing to a more diverse and open intellectual culture. Inspired by the Jain theory of multiple perspectives, the practice of global philosophy is compared to collaborative work on a very complex jigsaw puzzle. Many individuals contribute their expertise to the work without themselves having a comprehensive preview of the final picture. The paper concludes that, as more of the pieces are slotted into place, our understanding of, and ability to effectively deploy, our global philosophical and religious heritage will be incrementally enhanced. |
