AbstractMedia representations of emerging biotechnologies in the media can influence public attitudes and have the potential to impact on policy decisions and law-making. We discuss the unbalanced portrayal of synthetic biology in Chinese news media and how it might affect the perceptions of the public, the scientific community, and decision-makers.
