AbstractThis paper presented a new wavelet transform method called "Direct Wavelet Transform". The concept and algorithm of direct wavelet transform are discussed in details. This approach is different from Mallat pyramid algorithms. Subsample is not necessary for it. Since its scales can be arbitrarily selected, the 2-D direct wavelet transform is good at processing medical images to find out more local details in the images. Our experiments are performed with different types of wavelets. The results proved that direct wavelet transform can be applied to process medical images effectively.
