Abstract

This paper will present a new approach based on Modified Fractal Signature (MFS) and Modified Fractal Feature (MFF) for the discrimination of Oriental and Euramerican scripts. They will be useful in the measurement and classification of patterns. The MFS does not need iterative breaking or merging, and can divide a document into blocks in only one step. The MFF will also be used in the identification and classification of a selected set of texture images with good results. It is anticipated that this approach can be widely used to process various types of documents including even some with high geometrical complexity.
