Abstract‘Special Linguistic Zone' (SLZ) is defined as some special areas for language use where normal linguistic rules could be violated legally on certain conditions, which by nature is very much similar to 'Special Economic Zone'. Together with language contact and language acquisition, SLZ may functions as an important resource for language innovation and language change since those rule-violating usages first created in SLZ may spread out of SLZ. It is demonstrated in this article that SLZ can be categorized into three types: poetic language, title and slogan, and internet language, different types of SLZ have different motivations for creative use of language forms, and they thus exhibit different properties. The study of SLZ may shed light on our deep understanding of language mechanism, interpreting language change, predicting the future development of language.
