| Abstract | Taking our contemporary poetic language database as a case study, this paper aims at investigating the dynamic meaning construction process of poetic language from the meaning generation perspective. It is argued in this paper that one of the essential features of poetic language is conceptual integration which can be realized at lexical, sentential or textual levels. It is demonstrated that conceptual integration as a language mechanism is most often found in poetic language than other language genres, which conforms to the communicative function and stylistic feature of poetic language, and meets the basic expectation of poetry composing: conciseness and defamilarization. |
