AbstractThis paper studies sentences consisting of unaccusative one-argument verb taking argument object, especially its syntactic change and the evoluation of sentential construction meaning from ancient Chinese to modern Chinese. Influences exerted by ancient poetic syntax on the formation and development of this kind of sentential construction have been investigated. It has been demonstrated that one-argment verb taking argument object is rarely observed in Pre-Qin time, but more and more usages of the type have been observed the Han Dynasty. Some major syntactic changes took place one after another. Sentential construction meaning also underwent great change. In this process of historical development, peotic langauge has been playing a crucial role in enhancing the historical evolution of one-argument verb taking argument object.
