Abstract | They are symbolic constructions produced by an interpretation located in a certain time and space and, therefore, subject to the socio-political filters and interests of each era. In times of superdiversity, the internet has become one of the most significant spaces of interaction for the construction of realities and social identities for subjects, groups and also countries, understood here as imagined communities. The way in which the images and identities of the other are elaborated can be a motivator or inhibitor for the success of interactions between these same subjects, groups and countries. In this research, the Brazilian platform UOL.COM was selected as a study context, to analyze aspects of the construction of China's image through the headlines of news articles published about China. We consider as the economy a central area that corresponds, in our data, to 53% of the total amount of news published about China on the UOL Portal. The results indicate that China is represented with a wide variety of characteristics, from powerful, to threatening and also assuming a place of ambiguity. |
