| Abstract | This paper offers a view of indexical reference which is based on the pragmatic notion of salience. Such a view overcomes the problematic distinction introduced by Kaplan and Perry between pure indexicals and demonstratives, and it therefore offers a unified account for the referential mechanism of indexicals. |
