AbstractIn this paper, thickness shear vibration of infinite FGM plates is studied based on three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The thickness shear vibration modes and frequencies are obtained by solving the governing equations with the Galerkin method. Based on the two dimensional first order shear deformable plate theory for FGM plates, the thickness shear vibration frequencies are also determined. Shear correction factors are then calculated by enforcing the same frequency determined by both approaches. Parametric study of shear correction factors with different modulus ratio, material index and mass density ratio for FGM is presented. Free vibration frequencies of simply supported FGM plates are determined by using the shear correction factors. Comparisons with others are made to establish the accuracy and reliability of the solution.
