Abstract | Drawing on the literature on organizational identification, we hypothesize a curvilinear relationship between organizational identification and task performance. Across two studies with two different samples, we found consistent evidence that organizational identification had an inverted-U shaped relationship with task performance such that an intermediate level of organizational identification was associated with high task performance and either strong or weak level of organizational identification was associated with low task performance. Our research contributes to extant research by showing that the relationship between organizational identification and task performance is not as simple as it was described in the literature. |
