Abstract | This chapter investigates the relations between concrete poetry and Chinese written characters, the relationship between visual etymology and phonetic languages, ultimately the relation between “word and image” in poetry translation. The investigation between “word and image” is a research subject since my PhD thesis (2004), for which I translated poems of the German-speaking Jewish poet Paul Celan, which were composed simultaneously and in dialog with some engravings of the plastic artist Gisele Celan-Lestrange. |
