Abstract | In this essay I would like first to defend Heidegger against the above charge by a careful reading of Heidegger’s “who-analysis” in Being and Time. Then, I would discuss briefly a key idea of the “genealogical self” in the Chinese linguistic-philosophical tradition to illustrate how we should understand the relationship between an individual self and the “communal being” as his/her historical and social and environmental surrounding ground where an individual self comes form or emerges out. |
