| Abstract | In the literature to date, there have been a number of papers that focus on issues concerning the unit of translation. Unlike scholars who regard the concept of the unit as a formal one, the authors of this paper adopt a functional-linguistic view, assuming that the concept of the unit of translation is a semantic one and arguing that the unit of translation should be the whole text rather than clauses or paragraphs realizing the meanings in the text. By doing a generic-structure and semantic analysis, the authors demonstrate how the global meaning in the source text is realized in the target text. |
