AbstractWebsite materials usually carry many culture specific terms that are easy for SL readers to understand but may cause problems to TL readers, as each community has its own stock of knowledge and each language has its own system of expressions. This study attempts to examine the translation of the website materials of the Palace Museum in China. It employs the concepts of informativity and acceptability suggested by Beaugrande & Dressler (1981) for the analysis and discussion of the translations under investigation. to identify what translation strategies and methods are most commonly applied in translating materials of this kind. It also discusses how the third order informativity in the ST is downgraded to normal order informativity in the TT, and the possible factors behind the translator’s decision making.
