Abstract | Different approaches could be applied to translation teaching and different channels could be used as platforms for students to interact with each other and with the teacher. The last decade has seen a significant shift from teacher-centred instruction to learner-centred instruction and a significant expansion of the teaching-learning space from classroom to on-line platforms and beyond. This paper presents an innovative approach to translation teaching which is based on the experiment of the author over the past years in engaging student interaction in translation courses via the UMMoodle, which is one of the platforms for all kinds of teaching and learning used at the University of Macau. Among the many functions of Moodle, this study focuses on its Discussion forum, which can be an engaging aspect of a course, both in-class and out of class. The present study aims to find out how on-line discussions can be effectively created and managed, and how online discussions and the final outcome of the project can be evaluated. It discusses also discusses the role the teacher plays in the course of translation teaching in this new era of technology and big data. |
