Abstract | Lesser galangal, the rhizome of Alpinia officinarum, is widely used as a spice for flavoring food in many Asian countries. It is called Gao-Liang-Jiang in Chinese. Gao-Liang-Jiang is one of the top ten Cantonese herbal medicine. Phytochemical investigation led to the isolation of a new sesquiterpene-coupled diarylheptanoid (1), together with 10 known diarylheptanoids (2-11), from the Lesser galangal. Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic analyses and computational calculation. Some known diarylheptanoids showed cytotoxicity against A-549 cells. The research was supported by grants from University of Macau (MYRG2016-00046-ICMS-QRCM) and National Key R&D program of China (No. 2017YFC1703802). |
