Abstract | Chinese offshore REITs (REITs listed outside of mainland China but only investing in Chinese properties) should be good substitutes for Chinese REITs (REITs both investing and listed in China), and thus should fill the void of Chinese REIT market. By studying the Chinese offshore REITs listed in Hong Kong and Singapore, our results suggest that they behave more like REITs in the markets where they are listed, and therefore do not effectively reflect the information of their underlying markets, as Chinese REITs are supposed to. Nevertheless, Chinese offshore REITs could offer additional diversification benefits to investors. |
