Abstract

The effect of a new Al-4Ti-5B master alloy on the grain refinement of AZ31 magnesium alloy has been investigated. It is shown that grain refinement can be accomplished readily. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis and theoretical calculations show that TiB particles act as the heterogeneous nuclei. © 2005 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
