AbstractThe present study examines whether supervisors’ organization-based self-esteem influences subordinates’ organization-based self-esteem and how it moderates the relationship between subordinates’ organization-based self-esteem and employee voice. Using two-time survey data collected from head nurses and nurses working in a Chinese hospital, we found that supervisors’ organization-based self-esteem did not trickle down to impact subordinates’ organization-based self-esteem. Furthermore, the positive relationship of subordinates’ organization-based self-esteem with employee voice was found significant only when supervisors possess low levels of organization-based self-esteem. Theoretical and practical implications of our results are discussed.
